Maureen Seltzer, a native North Carolinian,
developed an interest in art at a very early age. During her high school years
in Garner, N.C. Maureen completed three years of art and three years of pottery.
Upon completion of high school she moved to Boston to pursue a career with
Polaroid, where she met and married her husband Neal Seltzer. While in Boston,
Maureen attended the Franklin Institute and received a certificate in Industrial
Photographic Science. The artist communities in Boston and the surrounding areas
continued to inspire Maureen to experiment with different media as she worked
towards finding a way to express her talent. After ten years in Boston, Maureen
and Neal returned to North Carolina to raise a family. During this time Maureen
continued to expand and express her creativity through different media and found
that she could express herself more fully through Watercolor and Acrylics. Her
involvement with the community led her to study with, and under, several
prestigious artists in Raleigh and Wake Forest. Over the past year Maureen has
been working diligently to define her personal style and technique, in addition
to becoming actively involved with the artist community in Wake Forest.
Maureen’s involvement in the Wake Forest community has led to her newest series
of paintings centered on the history of Wake Forest. The series is made up of
paintings of various landmark historical buildings. These paintings and others
can be seen at her “Porch Studio” in the N.C. Specialty Shops, 150 South White
St. Wake Forest N.C. Maureen currently teaches after-school art lessons at Cross
Creek Charter School and WF Parks and Recreation Center, which involves a lot of
creativity for young children.
